Description: This final project for my course in digital imagery was an original family digital archive, created with current archival tools and processes such as Omeka and Dublin Core.
Analysis: Over two weekends in October 2019, my father and I traveled to our farmhouse in Mt. Croghan, South Carolina to capture oral histories relating to our family, and process photographs for the digital archive project. The end result is an active digital archive entitled 288 Gibb jordan Road, with five current collections, and digitally processed artifacts including 100 year old photographs; it is viewable here: https://gibbjordanroad.omeka.net/.
The project was an excellent example of working within standard archival constraints such as short timelines, and inability to view certain items more than once. Some items, such as the Lorena Hart Smith Jordan letter, will need continuous processing and preservation processes, which offer additional archival practices for preservation, including transcription.
Reflection: This project developed key components useful to archives maintenance, including the solicitation archival materials, photographing and processing original archival materials. I am keeping it active, and continue expanding and updating it for reference purposes.
