PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LIFELONG LEARNING

Professional Development and Lifelong Learning

Description: Created during the first semester of my graduate program, this power point slide discusses the reasoning, purpose, and methodology behind my future successes within the profession.

Analysis: The final project for my Introduction to Library Science course, this slide succinctly presents a vast array of information covering numerous themes, tying all parts together in simplified shape graphs and a bright color schema chosen deliberately to reflect my institution, University of South Carolina. In retrospect, however, it is now clear that this color pattern may appear jarring to some screens and browsers, and perhaps a more muted version of red may have better suited the purpose. In addition, attempts at reducing verbal content may make the slide easier to read through and comprehension.

Reflection: Reviewing this material lets me see just how far I have come, while staying true to the course and vision I have to best represent the library science profession and those I will serve. Since creating this power point, I rely less on preset templates such as this, to creating my own visuals from scratch and making the impressions even more meaningful. Yet, this presentation's overall clean and visually appealing layout serves well as an initial foray into what it means to not only serve yourself as a librarian, but others as well.
