Description: This essay simulates a user's experience of catalog searching. Throughout, key terms such as controlled vocabulary, boolean operators, and authority control are presented and defined through user searching efforts.

Analysis: This essay was the product of many editing sessions, which resulted in my realizing that it was difficult to answer the questions in a simple "question/answer" format. It was when I decided to make into a essay-esque "story", that the final product came to fruition. The result: an example of how users experience catalog searching, with "behind the scenes" details added that explain the mechanics behind users' results.

Reflection: This was the first assignment in a long time that forced me to reexamine how I acquire technical understanding, as well as how to translate what I understood into a universal document to be read by others. It's served me well as a driving force to ensure what I know is being correctly translated on paper, and in message.
